$350 in free ads from Looksmart and Ask.com

Posted by Michael D Jensen on December 7th, 2006

Paul Allen has been at SES Chicago and after talking to some exhibitors is letting loose some codes for $300 at looksmart and $50 at ask.com. I just signed up for the LookSmart ad center and have $300 in credit now. It’s not as nice/usable as Adwords but it works. We’ll see what kind of traffic we get from LookSmart. (Ask.com code: SESCHI06 … LookSmart code: SESCHQ4)

Less ad competition
For some of you in certain industries using a non-Google search engine for advertising can save you tons and get you the traffic you’re looking for. Many companies overlook non-Google/Yahoo search engines, but they obviously still get traffic and will hopefully bring in some conversions for you. The conversion rates should be interesting to watch. Perhaps there is a different type of user that uses non-Google search engines. The answer for your industry may be in your conversions.

Just a side note about Paul Allen, he is a remarkable entrepeneur and now works to incubate start-ups (Provo Labs) and inspire entrepeneurs. He’s also a professor. His blog is a great one to subscribe to, he shares resources relevant to web marketers, start-ups, entrepeneurs, and small business in general.

  • Podcast Interview with SoloSEO’s Michael Jensen

Posted by Michael D Jensen on December 4th, 2006

I was recently interviewed by PRWeb and featured at PRwebPodcast.com. The podcast interview is quite short, just a few minutes, so check it out using the button below.

I’m not sure how many people actually listen to PRWeb’s podcasts, but having them so short and sweet it seems to be a nice way to get exposure to a lot of things that are happening when you’re commuting, exercising, etc. I think they are a nice “feature” for a press release, a new medium that may get you some exposure even if it’s small. The podcast group was very professional from start to finish, and very organized.

Do you think it’s too artificial, useful, or what?

  • Manifesto on Do-It-Yourself ___________

Posted by Michael D Jensen on December 4th, 2006

Hugh, at GapingVoid.com is taking < 500 word manifestos and is posting some of them on his blog. Todd Malicoat (StuntDubl.com) already got his Manifesto on SEO Marketing featured by Hugh, so I brainstormed for another topic. Here it goes:

    Manifesto on Do-It-Yourself __________

    1) What you learn often outweighs the money you save.

    2) Doing it yourself doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help or that you can’t actually do the project with someone else. Sometimes a friend, or a consultant, will do the trick.

    3) Having the right tools can make doing it yourself easier, faster, and better.

    4) There is a limit – some things you just shouldn’t do yourself. Examples include, but are not limited to: at home liposuction, preparing your own Fugu, and flying in a homemade airplane.

    5) Doing it yourself strengthens your passion and ownership for what you did.

    6) Every time you do something new yourself, your capacity for doing other new things is expanded, even if it is completely unrelated.
