Local, we believe is where the growth is... However, one must be careful what markets to enter on the local level... Many local websites can not afford quality SEO.

Thanks, great article! It's so important to "tap" into that online local market and to have a strategy to do so. Most of your searches are going to come from people looking for a certain location; you want to make sure your business is listed. For more information and tips about local search engine marketing, check out my colleague's white paper.
[...] I know this is a little off topic, but since Michael has been discussing how to get your own SEO company off the ground and growing, and due to the week Michael and I just suffered through, I had to remind myself frequently on why I traded in my previous “easy” life as a corporate suit, with a cushy job, limited responsibilities, manageable workload, consistent salary and paid health care for this life of entrepreneurship. And so I now share my thoughts… [...]

I really do appreciate your writing, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. As an additional comment I wanted to mention that the relationship chart which Bruce Clay publishes is really out of date.

Here at Localeze (sister company to Amacai) we provide business data (merchant content) to more the 35 local search and IYP sites.

As for small and medium business owners your tip is right on the mark it is essential that they take ownership of there directory level listing content as that content is imperative in improving their findablity in local search directories.
